2009 Bonfire Night

"Come one, come all" we said, and despite some fairly miserable weather many of you accepted the invitation to view this year's Haddenham bonfire and fireworks display at Fairchild's Meadow.

By the time the bonfire was lit it was adorned by over two dozen guys, testament to the industrious nature of Haddenham's youngsters. And not just industrious but inventive too. Worth of particular mention was "Guy Forks", his arms adorned with implements that suggested he had been lulled to the field with the promise of a burger! In the end though this year's judge, Alistair Hull, decided on the best guy, and so, after a few technical hitches, the winners Zoe & Liam McGibbon finally consigned the bonfire and all who sailed in her to a fiery end.

With the fire nicely blazing away it was on with the show - and what a show! Once again the fireworks team did us proud, turning the sky a majestic array of colours while we "oooohhh"ed and "aaaahhh"ed below. Every year we imagine that the show can't be better than last year, and every year we are proved wrong. Well done guys.

And thank you also to the small army who helped set everything up, took it all down, and between times stewarded, cooked, served, stood by for emergencies, cooked and served some more and did the myriad of other jobs that enable us to continue to put on this staple of the village calendar. We honestly couldn't do it without you.

Not that we came away completely empty-handed. We appear to have acquired a child's hat and a pair of gloves that were parted from their owners. If you are missing them, contact me:

Bonfire Night this year
FRIDAY 6 NOVEMBER

Fairchilds Meadow
Chewells Lane

Gate will open at 6.30pm
Food will be available from the same time

7.15 Guy judging and presentation to the winner
Followed by the Bonfire lighting at about 7.30
The firework display starts a few minutes after:

Entry has been kept the same again: £4 adults £2 children but don't forget- two children get in free if they bring a presentable Guy...

Food will be available until well after the firework display
Burger £2
Cheeseburger £2.50
Range of drinks, hot or cold 50p each
Jacket potatoes £1 plus 50p for each filling (butter, cheese, beans)
Hot dogs £1.50

But please remember- no sparklers or other personal fireworks

FUN RUN 21 June 2009

Now officially known as the Annual Fun Run/Walk/Toddle!

Many of our entrants take the run seriously and set out to achieve a good time over the 5km (apx) route, while others come to enjoy a more leisurely stroll with friends and family of all ages- even push chairs should manage the course.

The entry fees have been decided- no increase and one reduction:

Entries received up to 20 June 2009:
Individual £3 or £2.00 for 16 & under
Team £4 plus £2 per member (min 4)

Entries on the day (21 June 2009):
Individual £3.50 or £2.50 for 16 & under
Team £5 plus £2.50 per member
Family £10 (2 adults & 2 children or 1 adult & 3 children)

Prize age groups:
0 to 4
5 to 7
8 to 11
12 to 16
Over 16

Registration in the Bonfire Field of Fairchild's Meadow (Chewells Lane) will be from 10am in time for a 10.30 start

FUN RUN DATE ANNOUNCED!

As promised we shall be holding our Fun Run this year

The date is Sunday 21 June 2009

Registration opens at 10am and the Run starts at 10.30am

The course will be slightly longer this year- as soon as we know the distance it will be announced here

As in previous years we shall meet at the Fairchilds Meadows at the bottom of Chewells Lane
(If you come by car (WHY?) you need to park further up near the graveyard as there is no parking in the Meadows or on the rough part of Chewells Lane)

More details such as entry fee and prizes will be posted here as soon as they are decided

Don't forget- this event is for all types of participant from serious runners to families taking a more sedate stroll around our beautiful countryside away from the traffic and with time to chat

School Fayre 2009

We have been invited to attend the Robert Arkenstall School Fayre! This year it will be on the 4 July, and we shall be serving our sizzling sausages and blazing burgers from our magnificent marquee.

I will post the time here as soon as it is known.

Planned Fund Raising in 2009

This year we are hoping to serve our hot dogs and burgers etc:

At Haddenham's famous Blossoms and Bygones with our marquee on The Green

10 May 2009 in the afternoon

In June we are intending to resurrect the Fun Run
This has been very popular, although we had a break in 2008

Later, probably in July, we hope to be invited back to the Robert Arkenstall School Fayre

On Friday 6 November 2009 we shall be holding the annual Bonfire Night
